photos from the past
Three unknown people at the bridge in Fountainstown (located next to Angela's shop) Photo taken by Edward H Hackett
On the left above is another photo taken by Edward H Hackett, showing a bit more clearly the bridge that was in place in Fountainstown in the 1900's. On the right is a mural created by local artist, Mandy Dale, great granddaughter of Mr. Hackett. This Mural was created on a wall in Local resident, Barry Bradfield's house.
Fountainstown, (circa 1910)
The photos above were provided by Mandy Dale. The young girl in the four photos is Mandy's granny, Doreen Howell (nee Hackett). The older woman in the doorway (left) is Doreen's mother, Rose. They lived in Yorkshire at the time but used to spend their summers in Fountainstown, staying in the building that is now Angela's shop. Photos taken by Edward H Hackett
spot the difference!!!!!!
Best difference spotted so far: The road is in much better condition in the 1910 photo!!
A busy day at the beach (date unknown)
The date that this photo was taken is unknown. Cars registered in Cork City between 1903 and 1946 were given sequential plates from PI 1 to PI 9999. The car in the front of the photo has a PI 99*4 registration (third number missing) so this photo was more than likely taken in the 50's - 60's.

fountainstown beach 1959
This is a fabulous old photo which Sylvia Henry brought along to the recent Fountainstown Tennis and Pitch & Putt Club reunion (October 2014). This is a photo of Sylvia's father (George Brown) playing tennis in his front garden. In the background you'll see all the old cars parked up on the beach front, a busy day at Fountainstown Beach.
Postcard of Fountainstown before the car park was built. The "Well Field" with sand dunes can be seen where car park is now. The Daley's and Lambkin's houses, along with the mobile homes by the pitch and putt course haven't been built yet.
