Found you by accident! Love the old photos. I am Mandy Dale's cousin (also granddaughter of Doreen Howell nee Hackett). I love the picture of Peggy outside her shop. I remember visiting from Canada when I was around 10, and going to Peggy's for "orange floats" and "flakie bars" aaaah , good times!

Just to say that I came across the Fountainstown website whilst browsing during my lunch hour. It brough back many happy memories! My family owned and built the two bungalows that overlook the strand & I spent nearly every summer holiday in Fountainstown from 1958 until 1980. My great uncle was Toey Hunt, mentioned in the article on Pitch & Putt. I loved seeing the photos of Peggie and Jimmy Fitz. Best wishes.

Hello Fountainstown! You are a place of many happy memories for me. I love being there. Out on the sea on the kayak and over to Ringabella . Tea and apple pie in Angela's ! I'll be back next summer.
In the early 1940s, opposite Angela's shop where the new slipway is, they used to put timber decking out and in the evening, the people came in from around for the dancing. Someone had an accordion and it was lovely. I remember too the parish priest sitting on a chair having a drink and keeping a watchful eye on things!
Just remembered! In the 1950s they used to show films in the tennis court pavilion once every two weeks. One shilling to get in! We walked over from Myrtleville on a beautiful August evening to see the film "Brief Encounter". The moon was just rising above Roches Point. I remember the laughing and noisy trek back over the Coast Road. I slipped away down the steps to Poll Gorm and sat on the concrete steps watching the full moon sparkling on the calm sea and hearing the hushed surge of the water flowing over the glistening rocks. I was about 16 then. Never forgotten the magic!
